About this exercise
The Stroop task measures the brain's ability to override automatic reading and select a competing response.
You see color words printed in colored ink. Sometimes the word and ink match (congruent), often they do not (incongruent). Your job is to name the ink color.
Incongruent trials create interference because reading is automatic and faster than color naming. The gap between your RTs on congruent vs incongruent trials is the Stroop effect.
Minimising this effect is a marker of strong selective attention and cognitive control.
