Treating it as equation is not correct. So there must be extra steps.
2+3=5 5x2=10 (5 is half of 10 so x2 and we have the result)
But does that pattern work with the rest?
3+4=7 7x2=14
x2 pattern didn't work. We're looking for 21 which is x3.
For the first set, we had to x2, and 2 was the first number in the equation. Second one we had to x3, and 3 was the first number in the equation. Is that the pattern we're after?
Let's try with the last example
4+5=9 9x4=36
That worked, so it seems we have to first add the 2 numbers and then multiply by the first number.
5+6=11 11x5=55
By using the pattern discovered above, we get 55 as the final answer to replace the question mark.
