Early life and education

Kanye Omari West was born June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised largely in Chicago, Illinois. His mother, Donda West, was a professor and chair of the English department at Chicago State University; his father, Ray West, was a former photojournalist. West showed an early interest in music and visual art and began making beats in his teens.

He briefly attended Chicago State University before leaving to pursue music full time - a decision later echoed in the title of his debut album, The College Dropout. This biographical detail says nothing about a measured IQ; leaving college is a career choice, not a psychometric data point.
