There is no documented IQ score for Elon Musk. The widely shared 155 is reverse-inferred from his achievements, which is not how IQ is measured. Musk has never released a test result.
Watch “155” become a fact
Step through how an uncited guess hardens into something people repeat, without anyone adding a source along the way.
A stylised illustration of the pattern, not a map of real posts.
Musk grew up in Pretoria, read voraciously, he has said he worked through the encyclopedia, and was badly bullied at school. He taught himself to program on a Commodore VIC-20.
At 12 he sold the code for a simple space game, Blastar, to a computer magazine for about $500. At 17 he left for Canada, partly to avoid military service under apartheid.
Grades, degrees and the PhD he left after two days
A bullied reader in Pretoria, two degrees at Penn, and a Stanford PhD that lasted two days.
The record, not the rumour
Zip2 came first, then X.com, SpaceX and Tesla.
None of that is a test score. It is evidence of drive, risk tolerance and technical fluency: which is why people keep trying to convert it into one.
An IQ score is a comparison of test performance against a norm group. Success depends on that plus capital, timing, risk appetite, teams and luck. Working backwards from a fortune to a number mixes all of those into one figure that means nothing.
The same logic produces the equally uncited numbers attached to Gates, Zuckerberg and Jobs.
Telemetry: what each signal really measures
“I think it's important to reason from first principles rather than by analogy.”
“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.”

About the 155
No named test, no examiner, no date, no record. Treat any figure attached to Musk as invented.
