Add your terms and courses. You get unweighted and weighted GPA side by side, a correct cumulative GPA, and the grades you'd need next term to reach a target.

HOW GPA IS CALCULATED

A credit-weighted average, in three steps

1Convert each letter grade to grade points: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0, with plus and minus steps of 0.3.
2Multiply each course's points by its credit hours to get its quality points.
3Add all quality points and divide by the total credits.
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits

Because credits are weights, an A in a 4-credit course moves your GPA four times as much as an A in a 1-credit course. Weighted GPA adds a bonus first: +0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP or IB, which is how an A can count as 5.0.

THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE

Don't average your semester GPAs

Terms with more credits should count for more. Add up quality points and credits across every term, then divide once. Move the sliders to see the gap.

WHAT IS A GOOD GPA?

3.0–3.49Solid
3.5–3.79Very good
3.8–4.0Excellent

Your band is outlined. Context matters more than the number: admissions officers weigh course rigor, and many colleges recalculate GPA using only core academic courses and their own grade values.

Ignoring creditsA 1-credit A barely moves your GPA; a 4-credit grade moves it a lot. Enter real credit values.
Mixing scalesA weighted 4.3 and an unweighted 3.9 aren't comparable. Check which scale a number is on.
Assuming one standardCutoffs, plus/minus values and weighting differ between schools, and colleges often recalculate.
Counting pass/failPass/fail courses usually earn credit but no grade points; withdrawals normally don't affect GPA.
Expecting late swingsAs credits pile up, each new term moves your cumulative GPA less. Early terms matter more.
