Multi-Object Tracking

Multi-Object Tracking

Track several highlighted dots through random motion, then identify the originals.

Multi-Object Tracking

About this exercise

Multi-Object Tracking is the classic attention research paradigm — track 3-4 targets through chaotic motion.

Several dots are highlighted briefly. All dots then turn the same color and move randomly. After motion stops, you identify the originals.

Healthy adults reliably track 3-4 objects. Beyond that, accuracy collapses — the famous capacity limit of visual attention.

The trick is parallel tracking: do not chase each dot serially, hold them all in one wide attentional spotlight.

The science

Each test is constructed using Item Response Theory (IRT) and Classical Test Theory (CTT) to ensure reliable measurement of knowledge and ability across different difficulty levels.

Questions undergo rigorous review including difficulty calibration, discrimination analysis, and distractor effectiveness evaluation to maintain high assessment quality.

How to play

  1. A few dots are highlighted briefly — these are your targets.
  2. All dots then turn the same color and move randomly.
  3. When motion stops, click the original targets.
  4. Use peripheral vision — track the whole scene at once.
