Test Coverage
The Finnish proficiency test evaluates your skills across four main language areas: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Each section is designed to assess your ability to understand and use Finnish in practical and academic contexts.
Listening tasks include understanding conversations, announcements, and short lectures. Reading exercises range from everyday texts to more complex articles. Writing tasks involve composing emails, short essays, and summaries. The speaking portion tests conversational skills, pronunciation, and the ability to express ideas clearly.

CEFR Levels
The test results correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels, ranging from A1 (beginner) to C2 (proficient). Each level reflects your language competence:
- A1-A2: Basic user – can understand and use familiar everyday expressions.
- B1-B2: Independent user – can handle most situations while traveling and produce simple connected text.
- C1-C2: Proficient user – can understand demanding texts and communicate fluently and precisely.

What to Expect
The test typically lasts between two and three hours and is divided into four sections. You will face various question types such as multiple choice, gap filling, short answers, and spoken responses.
Testing is conducted in a quiet environment, either on paper or via computer, and the speaking part may be recorded or conducted face-to-face.

Scoring Methodology
Your performance in each section is scored separately and combined for an overall score. Each correct answer contributes to a total point count which is then converted into the corresponding CEFR level.
Partial credit may be awarded for partially correct answers, especially in writing and speaking. The test is designed to fairly evaluate your practical language ability rather than just theoretical knowledge.
Results include detailed feedback on your strengths and areas for improvement.
