Test Coverage

The Turkish language proficiency test evaluates your skills in four key areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Each section is designed to assess practical language use in everyday and academic contexts.

The reading section tests your ability to understand different types of texts, including articles, advertisements, and literary excerpts. The writing section requires you to compose essays, emails, or summaries demonstrating grammar, coherence, and vocabulary.

The listening section measures your comprehension of spoken Turkish through dialogues, announcements, and interviews. Finally, the speaking section assesses your fluency, pronunciation, and ability to express ideas clearly in conversations or presentations.

CEFR Levels

The test results are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which categorizes language ability into six levels:

  • A1 (Beginner): Basic phrases and introductions.
  • A2 (Elementary): Simple communication in routine tasks.
  • B1 (Intermediate): Handling everyday situations and expressing opinions.
  • B2 (Upper-Intermediate): Understanding main ideas of complex texts and fluent communication.
  • C1 (Advanced): Effective operational proficiency in academic and professional settings.
  • C2 (Proficiency): Near-native fluency and precision in language use.

Preparation

To prepare effectively, focus on building all four language skills. Utilize textbooks, online courses, and language exchange partners. Practicing past test papers and timed exercises will help familiarize you with the test format.

Additionally, immerse yourself in Turkish media such as news, podcasts, and films to improve listening and cultural understanding.

What to Expect

The test typically lasts three to four hours, divided into separate timed sections. You will start with the listening and reading parts, followed by writing and speaking, which may be conducted face-to-face or via video call.

Expect a variety of question types, including multiple-choice, short answers, essays, and oral responses. The speaking section will require you to answer questions, describe pictures, or participate in simulated conversations.

Scoring Methodology

Your performance is scored based on accuracy, fluency, coherence, and vocabulary range. Each section receives a separate score, which are then combined to give an overall proficiency level.

The scoring scale corresponds to the CEFR levels, helping you understand your current skills and areas for improvement. For example, a score at B2 indicates you can communicate effectively in most situations but may still encounter difficulties with very complex language.
